Val, a former firefighter, is incapacitated by agoraphobia due to a sexual assault at work. Now, she finds herself angry, jobless and alone, living among a bunch of social misfits at a week to week motel.  When a package is delivered to the common mailbox rather than her door, she knocks on the wall to ask her neighbor for assistance.  When help doesn’t come in the form she was expecting, Val must find a way to summon the person she used to be in order to brave the sunlight.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT...

When Covid began to take over the world I definitely didn’t yell “Yay, time to create!” I ate crap, stayed home and worried about the state of the planet for a few months…

THEN, I decided to make a short film. I personally didn’t want to watch or make anything pandemic related.  “Val” however, in addition to being covid “friendly” and an outstanding narrative, encompassed themes I felt like people could relate to in this strange time.

“Val” explores isolation, how it can protect us, but can also start to destroy us. It highlights the importance of relationships and physical touch. “Val” is a beautiful story, simply told at a time when stories of this kind are needed most.
